The Washington, DC Metropolitan Area

The Washington Metropolitan Area, including the close-in Maryland suburbs of Washington D.C. offers a myriad of services and activities. There’s literally "something for everyone" in this marvelously diverse area.

We begin with the fact that we are on the doorstep of the Nation’s Capital. Washington D.C. is a beautiful city that is easy to navigate and a friendly place to both visit and to live. The downtown area offers the familiar federal buildings and museums and is fairly unique in its "admission free" policy. You can spend days just wandering the various buildings that comprise the Smithsonian Institution (18 museums in all, most easily accessed from The Mall area of D.C.).

Washington, and many of the close-in suburbs, is also now recognized for its excellent restaurants. Since there are so many ethnic groups represented in this culturally diverse area, there are restaurants representing practically every nation in the world. You can choose everything from "fine dining" to neighborhood pubs – and be assured of a good meal at both.

Culturally, there is an abundance of riches. From the world renowned Kennedy Center, hosting the National Symphony Orchestra as well as the Washington Opera and various theatrical groups, to the newly built Strathmore Hall in North Bethesda (which is giving the Kennedy Center a run for its money!), to local theatre and arts groups, you could easily fill up your cultural calendar to overflowing!

Recreational and sports activities can also be found in abundance. Rock Creek Park, which runs throughout Washington D.C. and Montgomery County (with especially attractive stretches in the Kensington area), offers miles and miles of bike paths and running trails. There are also horse stables, playgrounds, picnic areas, soccer fields and tennis courts. Also known for its fine walking/biking/hiking trail, the C & O Park is another favorite of locals. Starting in Chevy Chase, running through Bethesda and ending in Georgetown, the Capital Crescent Trail has become an extremely popular path for bikers, joggers and walkers. If activities on water are more to your liking, the Potomac offers sailing, boating and kayaking – and the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean are not that far away!
